Ted Schuman, Founder/CEO
Ted Schuman founded PlanetOne in Scottsdale, AZ in 1992. Under his leadership, PlanetOne has grown into one of the most influential and respected go-to-market business partners in the telecom and IT industries.
Ted’s “work hard, play hard” philosophy combined with his team’s relentless focus on success and partner satisfaction has led PlanetOne to be recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in America by Inc. magazine from 2011 – 2018. For his advocacy and actions, Ted was named one of the industry’s Top 25 Disrupters and Top 100 Executives by CRN in 2017. Ted Schuman is a Founding Member of The Alliance, a consortium of the industry’s top distribution partners and also sits on several advisory boards for many of the top global carriers. In 2018, he was appointed to the Maricopa County (Ariz.) Attorney’s Business Advisory Council by Maricopa County Attorney, Bill Montgomery.
Mr. Schuman served honorably in the US Navy from 1982-1986, and in 2021, was named Honorary Commander to the 944th Logistics Readiness Squadron.
Chris Werpy, President
As President of PlanetOne, Chris Werpy takes ownership of the strategic direction, plan and performance of PlanetOne’s overall operations. He also contributes greatly to the company’s competitive “work hard, play hard” culture, as well as the experience of PlanetOne’s rapidly expanding North America partner base and more than 250 providers. With 20+ years of experience in business development, operations, sales and technology, Chris oversees PlanetOne’s executive leadership team and works side-by-side with Founder and CEO, Ted Schuman.
Prior to joining PlanetOne, Werpy served as part of the Executive Leadership Team at Masergy Communications, a PlanetOne preferred provider and true pioneer in software-defined networking. Throughout his 13+ year career at Masergy, he held varying roles including most recently senior vice president of solutions and services, where he led multiple organizations including Client Services, Solutions Engineering and Emerging Markets. Recognized for his growth mindset and market and technology insights, Chris stands out as one of the industry’s sharpest minds. He has published numerous industry articles, spoken on dozens of expert panels and is a graduate of the University of Colorado, Leeds School of Business.
Jonathan Hartman, Senior Vice President of Sales
As Senior Vice President of Sales for PlanetOne Communications, Jonathan Hartman is responsible for driving sales initiatives, increasing revenue and closing record deals across the PlanetOne’s growing nationwide partner base.
With more than 20 years of telecommunications experience, Mr. Hartman joined PlanetOne as Director of Channel Sales for the West in 2011. Since joining the company, he has placed an emphasis on transitioning partners from selling traditional telecom services into more complex and complete connectivity, cloud and IT solutions, and presents regularly at PlanetOne’s nationwide Tech Tour events and at various vendor forums. Over the years, Jonathan’s many contributions have helped PlanetOne grow into one of the top nationally recognized master agencies, honored by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing private companies for seven consecutive years from 2011 through 2017. In 2020, Mr. Hartman was recognized for the sixth consecutive year as a CRN Channel Chief, for his exemplary sales leadership and channel advocacy.
Prior to joining PlanetOne, Jonathan launched a channel program as a co-owner of a startup high-speed fixed wireless Internet service provider, which was successfully sold in 2006. He then moved back into the corporate world, supporting partners and master agencies for XO Communications. Mr. Hartman has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Denver.
Bernadette Richardson, Senior Vice President of Marketing
Bernadette (Bern) Richardson is a successful strategist with a defined expertise in business development for multi-million-dollar market leaders including Coca-Cola, as well as management services, operational efficiency, sales and technology solutions. In 2020 she was recognized by CRN for the fourth year in a row as one of the IT channel’s leading female executives as part of the CRN Women of the Channel Awards.
As Senior Vice President of Marketing for PlanetOne Communications, Bern brings more than 25 years of experience in business management excellence, including 14 years within the telecommunications industry as an entrepreneur, having served as President of TMC Communications and Director of Marketing for HCC. Prior to joining PlanetOne in 2016, she spent six years working for Public Safety Network deploying significant wireless infrastructure public safety initiatives for the State of California’s 9-1-1 Office of Emergency Services.
Bern graduated with honors from Pepperdine University, earning a Master of Arts degree in Business Administration. She also received a bachelor degree in pre-law from the University of California Santa Barbara and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute.
Christi Clark, Vice President of Operations
As Vice President of Operations for PlanetOne, Christi is responsible for overall success of all back-office support services, from the initial pricing/contracting to implementation advocacy and lifecycle support along with back office internal operations. Christi’s team empowers our partner community with an unprecedented back office team that provides the PlanetOne “boutique” experience our partners have come to expect.
Christi began her career in the industry 20 years ago, initially working in the telecommunications hardware industry designing, implementing, programming and overseeing PBX implementations for a PBX Vendor. Christi’s hardware knowledge, years of project management experience, excellent customer satisfaction and attention to detail has been invaluable to the PlanetOne team since 2008.
Jake Schuman, Senior Vice President
As Senior Vice President, Jake Schuman is responsible for leading sales on the west coast and PlanetOne’s technology initiatives.
Jake joined the PlanetOne team in 2014, opening the first west coast office for the company. Prior to joining PlanetOne, Jake held positions at Cbeyond and Windstream in both sales and channel roles. Jake’s expertise is around sales strategy, business development, partner enablement and development of technology.
Future initiatives around technology include the development of new partner enablement tools, driving success for both transactional and strategic sales initiatives.
Jake graduated from California Lutheran University with a degree in business.
Karie Atwood, Vice President of Supplier Management
As Vice President of Supplier Management, Karie sets the strategy for engaging with PlanetOne’s 300+ carriers, service providers and equipment suppliers. With her fingers on the pulse of PlanetOne’s MDF playbook and incentives, Karie runs PlanetOne’s Preferred Provider Program, which grew by 30% last year, and works across the organization to keep everyone in the know on supplier goals, initiatives and innovation cycles.
Karie joined PlanetOne in June 2021, bringing with her 16 years of experience in the telecom and IT sector and an undeniable drive for speed, agility, and performance—a few key traits pulled in from her 13+ years of racing motocross. Another effective takeaway she’s applied to business to fuel certainty in an uncertain world: “Gas it. When in doubt, you hit the throttle, not the brakes.”

Her career accomplishments are backed by countless testimonials from suppliers and a series of impressive wins across business development, co-op marketing and channel sales.
