From the CEO’s Desk
You are the Reason
It’s so easy to get caught up in the hype of what’s new and what’s next. As the New Year approaches, don’t forget what’s really bringing in the value and driving your business forward. Sure, innovation has its impact, but when it comes to maintaining and earning new business, it’s you, your team and your partners that add more revenue and profitability.
For those who attended our year-end Tech Tour, you heard me say “Portals don’t close deals. People do.” Again, new technology and tools bring an advantage to the table, but without the relationships and results will always fall short. The customer experience you deliver each and every day – those relationships you spend time building – are what draws people and businesses in, and keeps them coming back for more.
At PlanetOne, we’ve made relationships and results two non-negotiable priorities. We’re the one who treats you like family because you are family to us. We’re the ones who work harder and play harder than our peers because we really do want you to meet and exceed your business goals. And sometimes that drive extends to your personal goals too. Have you checked out our 2019 incentives? Personally, I can’t wait for Hawaii!
So as we bring 2018 to a record-breaking close and ready for a kickass 2019, my asks are simple: Take inventory and make sure you’ve got what you need and are doing what you can to grow and nurture your existing client base. You are the reason we show up every day ready to work, and in 2019, we will be investing in our team and our technology to help you grow faster and more profitably. If there’s something more you need from us, pick up the phone and let us know. Business is personal, and partner success is our #1 priority.
Thank you as always for your partnership.

MicroAge: PlanetOne Does Relationships Better Than Anyone Else
For five decades, MicroAge’s success has been driven by the company’s ability to adapt to the evolving needs of its clients. The solution provider regularly taps into the expertise of its technology partners and master agents when adding new technology expertise and practice areas. In 2013, when MicroAge made the decision to add telecom and cloud services and solutions to their portfolio, they turned to PlanetOne.
“Traditionally our focus was on hardware and software, so telecom and cloud were very new to us,” said Amanda Woody, Director of Partner Relations & Marketing at MicroAge. “Due to its proven track record with these technologies, PlanetOne was one of the first master agents we brought in to help us build out our new practice areas.”
Face-to-Face Interaction is Critical to Mutual Success
One of the reasons the relationship between the solution provider and master agent has been so successful is the close geographic proximity of the two companies. MicroAge is located in Tempe, Ariz., which is a short drive away from PlanetOne’s headquarters in Scottsdale. This means that the solution provider’s team benefits from the value that comes from regular in-person meetings and collaboration.
“We are an established organization where face-to-face meetings with our clients and partners play an integral part of doing business,” continued Woody. “Our PlanetOne representatives have been incredibly generous with their time and consistently spend time on-site with our team discussing the challenges our clients face and coming up with creative solutions to solve their most pressing problems. This has been a huge win for us, and PlanetOne’s ability to establish and foster such strong relationships with partners like us is something they do better than anyone else.”
Education Fosters Meaningful Conversations; Drives Revenues
When asked what hot topics are coming up these days in conversations between MicroAge and its clients, Woody responded that many are asking about SD-WAN and cloud services. “There is quite a bit of buzz around SD-WAN, especially among our client base which is primarily in the mid-market space,” said Woody. “And, while there are many conversations percolating around this topic, a lot of clients aren’t quite ready to make that jump. For those that are, it is critical that we be able to go to market with best-of-breed technology solutions, and know we can count on PlanetOne’s guidance and expertise in this area.”
Woody added, “PlanetOne’s Tech Tour events, along with lunch-and-learns and one-on-one training and education with the PlanetOne team have been tremendously helpful to us. With our combined knowledge and expertise, we are able to foster meaningful conversations with our clients around the topic of SD-WAN and other new and emerging cloud and telecom offerings, which in turn help us drive revenue growth.”

Employee Recognition: Ross Thompson
At PlanetOne, we value the contributions our employees make to ensure both our success and that of our providers and partners. In our newsletter each quarter, we shine a light on one of our amazing employees. This quarter, we are featuring Ross Thompson, Director of Sales, Americas.
Since joining PlanetOne in 2011, Ross has helped hundreds of agents and MSPs successfully transform, advance and grow their businesses well beyond expectations. Over the years, his ingenuity and all-in service approach to success has enabled PlanetOne’s channel partners to close record deals and increase the overall business value they bring to the contract.
In May 2018, Ross was promoted to Director of Sales, Americas and has been credited with helping to grow PlanetOne’s MSP business by supporting our channel partners in pre- and post-sales activities, including orchestrating the sales approach and ensuring exceptional follow-through and service. He is currently responsible for expanding PlanetOne’s channel accounts across the U.S. and accelerating the company’s success with Preferred Providers and nationally-focused channel partners.
We recently sat down with Ross to learn more about what he likes most about working here at PlanetOne, and how he spends time away from the office.
Q: What do you like most about your job? Working with PlanetOne?
A: There are so many great things about working here, but for me the thing that stands out most is the positive daily interactions I have with my partners and providers. Being able to sit down with a partner and help them put together a solution, and then matching it to the right vendors in order to solve their customers’ most pressing business challenges, is a very rewarding experience. The value we add for both our provider and MSP partners, helping them close deals that drive business success and growth is what I like most about this job.
Next, since joining PlanetOne, I have established some amazing professional and personal relationships with my partners and providers – ones that will last a lifetime. PlanetOne has given me the ability to do this, and for that I’ll be forever grateful.
Furthermore, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention all of the great people who work here at PlanetOne. Just as I’ve formed lifetime relationships with my partners and providers, I’ve done the same with many of my co-workers here at PlanetOne. They are my extended family, and I love the fact that we are all committed to working together to drive our mutual success – we check our egos at the door and no job is too small or insignificant for anyone on the team.
And finally, since I love to travel the perks of the job are pretty awesome too. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to visit some really cool destinations with our partners and providers.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t working?
A: I live an active lifestyle, and when I’m not at work, you’ll typically find me at the gym, on a trail hiking, snowboarding in the mountains or rooting on my favorite Chicago sports teams with my niece. What I love about the outdoors is that it gives me time to decompress and reduce the stress of daily life. I also like to travel – especially to tropical locales. There are still many places I want to see, but currently my favorite place to visit is Hawaii and I’m looking forward to PlanetOne’s High Rollers trip to the Big Island in 2019!
Q: Do you have a ‘bucket list’? What are some of the things you would want to do if time or money were no object?
A: If time or money were no object, I would travel. I’m eager to visit Europe, South America, Australia and Asia so that I can experience and embrace all of the different cultures in these regions.
Q: Do you have a favorite saying, mantra or quote?
A: In my personal life, one of the sayings I use the most is “everything happens for a reason.” This is how I try to keep grounded in the moment. Even if I don’t understand why something is happening, eventually the answer will come to me.
